Former New Zealand high jump champion and record holder Terry Lomax has been appointed Performance Coordinator with Athletics New Zealand.
Lomax, who will report to the High Performance Director, will target those athletes and their coaches who are identified as probable top 16 2016 Olympic Games representatives.
The 51 year old former Canterbury athlete has been based in the United Kingdom since 2001 and is currently a performance coach for UK Athletics, involving monitoring athlete and event progress, coach support and mentoring.
Lomax competed at the 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games and was New Zealand high jump champion for three years 1978-80.
Lomax’s appointment has been made with the support of SPARC and funding for his position has been secured through additional SPARC high performance investment. Lomax, who has coached for over 30 years, was in New Zealand earlier this year delivering coach development initiatives. Among the many New Zealand champions that Lomax has coached over the years are Angela Pule, Jayne Mitchell (Kiely), Mark Keddell, Glenn Howard and Melina Hamilton.
Lomax starts at Athletics New Zealand on 5 October.
