Schools back on their bikes and walking for iMove
Term 4 marks the start of the popular Sport Manawatu active transport initiative iMove in schools and early childhood centres around the region. Keep an eye out for students on the streets heading to school the active way.
iMove will run in schools from October 14 to November 11. During this time, students will be rewarded for biking, walking, scootering, and skateboarding to and from school. Each time they do so, their iMove card is stamped and when completed goes into the draw for a range of great prizes.
Everyone at College Street Normal School is excited about taking part in the iMove initiative for the first time in Term 4. “We believe it is a great way of encouraging both kids and their families to be active and also reduce traffic congestion around the school,” says Katherine Schimanski, teacher in charge of iMove at College Street.
“It is a great initiative” says Doug Drysdale, principal at Bunnythorpe School. “I have been pleased to see that a number of our seniors have continued to walk and bike [following the introduction of iMove in Term 1]”.
If schools are interested in trying out iMove they should contact Sport Manawatu’s iMove Coordinator, Jacqueline Rose.
