ArrowCare A Reason to Celebrate Summer

Hayfever sufferers will be able to breathe easy this summer thanks to ArrowCare’s new range of generic medications that treat annoying hayfever symptoms without breaking the bank.

Itchy watery eyes, sneezing, a runny or blocked nose, coughing, sore throats, headaches and tiredness are all common hayfever signals that can be expensive to treat and take the joy out of the warmer weather.

At up to a third of the price of originator brand medications ArrowCare’s new Zetop and Fexofast give effective relief and work in exactly the same way to relieve uncomfortable symptoms as their counterparts.

Both of these generic medications contain the same amount of active ingredient Cetirizine (Zetop) and Fexofenadine (Fexofast) as the originator brands and are identical in dosage, strength and use.

The CEO of Arrow Pharmaceuticals (NZ) manufacturer of the ArrowCare range of generic OTC medicines Ron van der Pluijm says his company has noticed an increased demand for generic medications during the recession.

Generic versions of drugs are made affordable because their manufacturers do not have to invest in the development, marketing and promotion of the drug once a brand-name drug’s patent protection expires and the generic version can be approved for sale, he says.

Van der Pluijm says in Australia about 30% of scripts are for generics compared with 50% in the United States, 44% in the Netherlands and 70% in Denmark. Van der Pluijm says New Zealanders could save up to 30%-40% of the price by buying generic OTC medications.

“We have definitely seen generic medication becoming a more popular choice among consumers wanting to save money as the accumulating cost of treating some conditions such as hayfever and allergies can be expensive,” he says.
