There’s a bigger, brighter even better party lined up for this year’s New Year’s Eve – and everyone’s invited, even the kids!

Dunedin City Council Events Unit has confirmed a free New Year’s Eve concert in the Octagon and released details of a high quality crowd-pleasing line-up for the event.

The exciting range of acts will feature three very energetic local bands. First up at 9.30 pm will be Tui Award winners “Delgirl”. Earlier this year their debut CD won the prestigious RIANZ Folk Album of the Year award, the only Otago act ever to have done so. Their follow up CD has just been released onto the market.

“Delgirl” will be followed by “Soul Deep”, a visually exciting 10 piece band who will deliver a very danceable mix of soul, Motown, rhythm and blues and funk covers with multiple singers and horn section.

11pm signals the arrival of party time and dancing music with dynamic local covers band “Girl Friday”.

At midnight the Octagon will light up with the traditional fireworks display off the Civic Centre roof as the iconic Municipal Chambers clock counts down the old year and introduces the new.

The artists will be backed by a large sound and lighting system provided by top local suppliers.

The support of the Lion Foundation along with MoreFM has ensured this important community event continues.
