Business NZ welcomes the successful conclusion to Free Trade Agreement negotiations with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which started in July 2007.

Speaking on behalf of the Export NZ division of Business NZ, Auckland Regional Export Manager Bruce Goldsworthy says the deal comes at an opportune time for New Zealand’s economic growth and will help a growing number of New Zealand exporters by opening up further access to the six Gulf nations.

“The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) represents an important and diverse trading partner for New Zealand.

“Both traditional and emerging New Zealand products and services stand to benefit – in particular food products, education, construction and building related products, engineering services, agri-business, and some specialised manufactured products.

“Diversity is of great importance in aiding our emergence as a strong, export-led, free trading economy. While the rise of Asian Free Trade Agreements are of substantial benefit, it’s important we also enjoy the diversity of an advanced trade agreement with the GCC nations.

“We look forward to the signing of the FTA in the new year, and being able to work with New Zealand businesses in developing our relationship with the Gulf region. There are huge potential rewards from this FTA for all concerned.”
