The Northern Districts Cricket Association and the Northern Knights have announced that The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation will be the official charity for their 2009/10 cricket season.

Northern Districts Chief Executive David Cooper says that the partnership will help raise vital funds for the Foundation and spread important breast cancer messages to fans at Northern Knights games.

“For the upcoming season, the Northern Knights will have a close affiliation with The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation. Throughout the HRV Cup Twenty20 competition, in particular, the Knights will ensure that the cause is in people’s minds,” he says.

“We are very aware that the Northern Knights provide us with an excellent vehicle to promote the awareness of and also fundraise for a charity and we feel strongly that we can assist, if only in a small way, the excellent work of The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation,” Mr Cooper adds.

The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation Executive Trustee Heather Shotter is delighted to have the support of the Northern District Cricket Association and the opportunity to promote the Foundation’s life-saving messages to a wide audience.

“A diagnosis of breast cancer affects the entire family, and through the Northern Knights we have been presented with a perfect opportunity to spread our messages to the wide-ranging audience that cricket attracts,” she says.

The initiatives for the season will be unveiled at the Northern Districts Cricket Sponsor and VIP Launch being held in early November.
