Fun Courtesy Reminder for Coastal Walkway Cyclists
Are you looking out for slow-moving humans on the Coastal Walkway?
On Monday (9 November) a temporary footpath transfer will be laid on the walkway near the central deck to remind bikers to cycle courteously among other walkway users.
“We’ve taken a fun approach with this transfer sign to make it a positive reminder about courtesy among cyclists,” says Sustainable Transport Coordinator Nathaniel Benefield.
“Using humour also helps people remember the message.
“The vinyl transfer will be in place for a week or more, and then it will lift away from the concrete.”
The transfer reminds cyclists about ‘Slow-moving humans ahead’, and to use their bells when approaching other walkway users.
The sign is being laid as three cycling conferences are being held in the city. On Tuesday the Australian Bicycle Conference begins, followed by the New Zealand Cycling Conference on 12 and 13 November, then the Cycle Advocates Network conference on 14 and 15 November.
“These conferences are putting the spotlight on New Plymouth’s cycling infrastructure, especially as we are embarking on the extension of the Coastal Walkway north to Bell Block which will extend the city’s off-road cycling commuter route,” says Mr Benefield.
“This week is a great chance for cycling enthusiasts from outside the region to discover the gems of Taranaki for themselves.”
