The 2009/10 Contact TriWoman Series was today confirmed for ten venues throughout New Zealand this summer thanks to a naming rights partnership with Contact Energy.

Already the principal partner to Triathlon New Zealand, Contact further emphasized their support for the sport with today’s announcement.

“Our principal partnership with Tri NZ has been a real success, said Craig Griffiths, Sponsorship Manager for Contact Energy. “The Contact TriWoman Series offers another chance to experience the thrill of completing a Triathlon in a fun relaxed and encouraging environment and we are delighted to be involved”

Event Manager for Tri NZ, Adele Holmes is delighted with the new partnership, one that will allow an already popular women’s event to grow further this summer.

“Women around the country will be delighted with this news, as are we here at Tri NZ. The Contact TriWoman is a non-competitive series that provides an opportunity for women of all ages, sizes, backgrounds and abilities to set their own goals and enjoy each others company on the day.

“TriWoman and others series like it have proven extremely popular in recent years and once again we expect good numbers at all events. TriWoman is not about lycra and flash bikes, it is a variety of triathlon and duathlon events designed for every woman in the community to set their own targets and achieve them with the help of friends, family and other participants.”

The Contact TriWoman Series will visit ten locations from Whangarei in the North to Christchurch in the South. Previously superbly run by event promoter Shane Hooks, this is the first year the Series has come under the watchful eye of Tri NZ, something the national body is only too aware of.

“We have some big shoes to fill in Shane Hooks,” said Holmes. “Shane has inspired so many women over the years to improve their fitness and overall health; some have changed their lives as a consequence. It is our goal to motivate and reward women in a similar fashion at all of our events with a safe, non-confrontational and rewarding experience, one they will hopefully share with family and friends.”

Each of the TriWoman events offers a variety of short distance Triathlon and Duathlon events, with participants taking part on flat easy courses with swims in shallow water over no more than 300m in distance and bike rides of approximately 10km and a run of approximately 3km to finish. Distances will vary only marginally at some venues. With over 6,000 competitors last summer, the Contact TriWoman Series ranks as one of the biggest triathlon series in the country.
