Changes have been made to lanes on Smart Road to make it easier for drivers to leave The Valley shopping centre in Waiwhakaiho.

The length of road in front of Harvey Norman now gives drivers two lanes for turning right toward Fitzroy, instead of the previous one.

“As a follow-up to observations of current performance and feedback from the community, we considered that the change would help reduce the tailback of traffic waiting on Smart Road for the traffic lights,” says Manager Roading Assets Max Aves.

“The new road markings are in now, and drivers will just have to make sure they stay within their lane as they make the right-hand turn from Smart Road onto Devon Road. Considerate merging then becomes an issue for those motorists who wish to continue on to Northgate.

“We’re really pleased to have made this change before the pre-Christmas traffic starts to build up.”

In addition, parking prohibitions are being extended along Smart Road to help drivers enter and exit the Harvey Norman car park.
