Rotomanu Lake Weed Harvesting About to Begin
Weed from Lake Rotomanu will start to be harvested this week.
The weed, which has made it difficult for swimmers, boaties and jetskiers to use the lake, will be cut to a maximum depth of 1.8m depending on the height of the lake.
“It will take 10 working days to remove the weed and unfortunately we’ll have to close the lake to the public during that time,” says Manager Parks Mark Bruhn.
“However it will be open for use this weekend, so make the most of it while you can!”
The lake will be closed to the public between 7.00am and 6.00pm from this Wednesday (25 November) to Friday (27 November), then from 30 November to 4 December.
Once removed from the lake the weed will be placed in an adjacent paddock to drain off the excess water. The Council is talking with composting firms about recycling the weed.
