New Temporary Public Artwork

By now you may have seen the vast lettering on the hoarding of the construction site on Willis Street - the latest public artwork commissioned by our Public Art Panel, together with property developers, The Wellington Company.

A call for proposals went out to artists earlier this year, and Brydee Rood's Te Ra Te Ra Te Ra Black Hole! was selected.

By day, you can see bright orange letters that read 'Te Ra Te Ra Te Ra Te Ra Te Ra' ('the sun' in Te Reo Māori). By night, little solar lights spell out 'Black Hole Black Hole'.

Brydee is already an internationally-recognised artist. New York, Japan, Mexico, Miami, Melbourne and Sydney are just some of the places she has shown work since completing a Masters at Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland in 2006.

The artwork will be in place until late next year, when the five-star 'green' Telecom building is completed.
