HAMILTON

The Hamilton Halo project, aimed at bringing native birds starting with tui back to Hamilton. is being showcased by Environment Waikato this Sunday 6 December.

EW will operate a stall at the Hamilton East Heritage Day Festival at Steele Park, which is running from 11am to 4pm.

“Our Halo stall is a great opportunity to learn about how EW’s pest control work is supporting tui around the city, and we’re pleased to be part of this local event,” said Hamilton councillor Paula Southgate, who has been closely involved with the Halo project.

“Tui are part of Hamilton East’s natural heritage. They were once plentiful along the east bank of the river feeding on kowhai. We’re really encouraged by the increased number of tui sightings we’re getting from the public this year.”

People can take Sunday buses to the Heritage Day. See www.busit.co.nz for details or call 0800 800 401.
