Shelley Cave has been appointed as a new member of the Securities Commission, Commerce Minister Simon Power announced yesterday.

"I'm pleased Shelley Cave will be joining the securities commission in February next year. She is an experienced corporate and securities lawyer and will add value to the Commission's work in these areas," Mr Power said.

Shelley Cave is a partner at Simpson Grierson, specialising in corporate and securities law.

She is a member of the New Zealand Venture Capital Association and the institute of Directors.

Her appointment to the Securities Commission is for a term of five years, commencing on 16 February 2010.

Ms Cave succeeds Cathy Quinn, who is stepping down from the Commission after more than nine years of service.

"I'd like to thank Ms Quinn for her contribution to the Securities Commission over the past nine years."
