The hysteria around the cashing up of a week’s annual leave is an over reaction, says David Lowe, Employment Services Manager for the Northern Employers and Manufacturers Association.

“The proposal for people to be able to request a week’s holiday to be cashed up is an entirely legitimate freedom,” Mr Lowe said.

“It’s astonishing that some people oppose others having such a right.

“It makes you wonder what sort of a world they want.

“The proposal to cash up a week’s holidays has buckets of protection attached to make sure employees cannot be coerced in to making such a request.

“In today’s environment, not many employers will want leave to cash up anyway; they’ll prefer their employees actually take a holiday.

“The Holidays act review is well overdue, and it will bring much needed relief to both employers and employees who struggle to understand and work with the current outdated law.”
