HAWKE'S BAY

Irrigation bans have been slowly coming into force in Hawke’s Bay as, despite the damp and cool spring, river and streams flows are now in summer recession.

Hawke’s Bay Regional Council has placed bans on water takes linked to the Whanawhana monitoring site only on the Ngaruroro River, and on takes linked to the minimum flow level of 5000 litres/sec only at the Tapairu Road site on the Tukituki River.

There is a ban on water takes linked to the minimum flows of 300 litres/ sec and 250 litres/sec only on the Maraekakaho Stream; water takes linked to minimum flows of 120 & 100 l/s are on warning.

There is a ban on all takes from the Karewarewa Stream at the southern edge of the Heretaunga Plains.

Warnings are in place for the Kauhauroa Stream in Wairoa District, Pakuratahi Stream, and on the Heretaunga Plains the Louisa, Te Waikaha, Mangateretere (150l/s minimum flow only) and Karamu Streams.
