CCHR: New Zealand Has A Serious Psychotropic Drugging Problem
CCHR By Steve Green. New Zealand has a serious psychotropic drugging problem. In particular the amount of children and young people being prescribed powerful drugs and suffering horrific adverse reactions including drug addiction.
Two major CCHR accomplishments occurred in 2009 with the launch of our new website in recognition of NZ Mental Health awareness week, and the release of the award winning CCHR documentary Making a Killing: the Untold Story of Psychotropic Drugging to over 65,000 viewers on the prestigious Maori Television.
Your overwhelming response revealed there are a large amount of victims of abuse in need of CCHR ’s support. We would like to help and are only just scratching the surface, so if you know of someone complaining of abuse, please urge them to get in touch with us.
CCHR helps by assisting those who have suffered abuse in the mental health system by listening and documenting their stories and linking them to the right people and information so they are empowered to make informed decisions to help themselves and others. We also help by sharing the stories of those who have been directly or indirectly affected by abuse; many of whom have gone on to lead fulfilling lives, free of the mental health system and its intrusive treatments of electroshock and drugs.
If you or someone you know has overcome a mental health adversity, we are interested in you and your story. A woman recently contacted us to share her story of grit and determination. She was resolute to help in the recovery of a friend completely debilitated by a cocktail of psychiatric drugs. Her friend is now free of her addiction to the drugs and is starting to actively participate in life again, much to the delight of her friend, and of course, CCHR .
Keep in touch as we continue to fight for less abuse and more rights in the mental health system. We will have some exciting updates for you in 2010, including CCHR education days, the search for a new office to house our ever growing team of volunteers, and the return of the CCHR human rights exhibition.
