HAWKE'S BAY

Many more irrigation bans are now in force across Hawke’s Bay as warm westerly winds and low rainfall show significant reductions in river and stream flows.

Hawke’s Bay Regional Council has placed bans on water takes linked to Te Waikaha Stream at Mutiny Road and Karamu Stream at the floodgates; also on Maraekakaho Stream at Taits Road for the 120 litres/sec low flow level, with a warning on the 100 l/s flow limit.

There is a ban on Waipawa River at Waipawa for the low flow levels of 4000 and 3700 l/s; water takes linked to the low flow of 3400 l/s are on warning. A ban is also on the Tukituki River at Tapairu Road for the 5000 l/s low flow level with a warning on the 3000 l/s flow limit.

Bans are already in place on the Ngaruroro River at Whanawhana, the Karewarewa Stream at Turamoe Road and at Paki Paki; also at the Mangateretere Stream at Napier Road, for both the 150 l/s and 100 l/s low flow levels.

Warnings are in place for the Kauhauroa Stream in Wairoa District, Pakuratahi Stream, the Tutaekuri River at Puketapu (3800 l/s flow limit), Ngaruroro River at Fernhill (2400 l/s flow limit) and Louisa Stream at Te Aute Road.
