Community Event Grants
Neighbours who know each other are better prepared for emergencies, and we’re keen to help you to get to know yours. Host a barbeque or run an arts project - the choice is yours.
We recently helped out with an event in Island Bay's Brighton Street, where residents gathered to have fun with art, share good kai and take part in games.
One of our Wellington Emergency Management Office team was also on hand to answer any questions residents had about being prepared for an emergency.
Organiser Katrina Baylis says the day was a great success. "We wanted to put on an event to welcome people who had just moved to our street, and also to celebrate new children recently born in the neighbourhood.
"We were already part of the Neighbourhood Support programme, but until we met with an emergency management officer, we didn't have an emergency plan. And now we do!
"It was a fun day for everyone - definitely something we'd like to do again," says Katrina.
If you would like some help to organise a similar event for your neighbourhood this summer, email arts@wcc.govt.nz or give the City Arts team a call on (04) 499 4444.
