BLENHEIM

Green Party Consumer Affairs Spokesperson Sue Kedgley is taking her Country of Origin Labelling campaign to Blenheim on Thursday.

Ms Kedgley will be meeting with a group of garlic growers and the Blenheim Mayor on Thursday to listen to their concerns, and will be promoting her nationwide mandatory Country of Origin petition.

“Six years ago we had a flourishing garlic industry but cheap garlic imports have decimated the industry and there are only a handful of growers left, all operating in the Blenheim area. I am concerned that if we continue to be flooded with imported food, sections of our food industry will be wiped out, just as our manufacturing sector has nearly been,” Ms Kedgley says.

“I’ve been delighted at the huge support my call for mandatory labelling has received, and am looking forward to taking it to Blenheim.
