Fit 4 Funding is back and set to give local community groups practical advice on how to seek and make the most of funding opportunities.

Mayor David Ogden is encouraging people to come along to the series of workshops on Thursday 11 March at the Town Hall from 9am to 4pm.

"Community groups do important work in our city but they sometimes find securing funding an issue. Fit 4 Funding offers advice on how to identify, apply and secure funding - whether it's $100 or $10,000," says Mayor Ogden.

"People will need to be in quick to secure a place as the workshops were very popular last year."

The workshops also offer the chance for community groups to brush up on marketing, administration and business skills, and to learn more about the sustainability of community organisations.

Tariana Turia, Minister for the Community and Voluntary Sector, will speak at the event alongside representatives from major funding organisations including Lotteries, the Lion Foundation, Creative New Zealand, the Charities Commission and the Department of Internal Affairs. Inland Revenue will discuss the new payroll giving scheme.

Local funding organisations will also be available for participants to discuss funding needs.

Fit 4 Funding is a Hutt City Council initiative together with the Department of Internal Affairs and Upper Hutt City Council.

To register, visit www.huttcity.govt.nz/funding or contact community development officer Amy Cleworth on 04 570 6934 or amy.cleworth@huttcity.govt.nz. Registration costs $10.
