Council officers will be travelling around the district with information on the Taupo Urban Commercial and Industrial Structure Plan before returning to hold a number of open days in Taupo town.

Project Manager Nick Carroll says the consultation has been underway for over 6 weeks and there is a lot of interest - with around 70 submissions received so far, but there is still a month to go.

He says “although the structure plan focuses on the Taupo urban area, we want to encourage everyone in the district to take an interest in the plans and have their say. This involves a bit of a road trip around the district, visiting Turangi and the western bays, Kinloch, Mangakino and Acacia Bay and then back to the Great Lake Centre in Taupo on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th February.”

“I strongly encourage people to come down and have a look at the ideas and concept plans and find out the facts. This is particularly important as we have received feedback that there is a lot of misinformation circulating, particularly regarding the multi-purpose community facility proposed next to the Great Lake Centre,” says Mr Carroll.

He says Council need to hear from their whole community so it is important that people make a submission on what they like and what they don’t like so their elected representatives can make informed decisions. “As the plan is quite complex with a raft of important areas under consideration we have designed the submission form to try and prompt people to provide feedback on many of the key issues. We encourage people to have a closer look at the plan for more detail.”

Submissions forms and more information, including a DVD talking about aspects of the plan, are available from: all Council offices and libraries; the Council website; the Taupo Urban Commercial and Industrial Structure Plan Facebook page; and at the open days.
