NZ MTB Cup Round Four Preview, Rotorua/Tokoroa Feb 5-7
North Island Leg of the Series Under Way this Weekend.
The RaboPlus 2010 NZ MTB Cup commences its north island segment this weekend in Rotorua and Tokoroa. The six event national series in MTB Cross Country and Downhill disciplines has already seen competitors racing at three events in the south island in January - the three north island cup events in February culminate in the RaboPlus MTB National Championships at the end of the month in Wellington.
Rotorua hosts Downhill Round Four on Friday and Saturday in the hugely popular Whakarewarewa Forest right on the edge of town. Competitors always enjoy racing in this forest, where the downhill race course epitomises the best features that the many trails in this forest have to offer.
On Sunday, Tokoroa returns to hosting national level competition after an absence of several years with Cross Country Round Four, at the Cougar Park venue right in the middle of town. Cougar Park is well regarded by competitors and is a favourite with the regions mountainbikers, and the Tokoroa community is excited to be drawing national level competitors to the town again in 2010. This year, Elite high performer and Tokoroa local Mike Northcott has been involved with setting out the multi-lap race course, and with his influence competitors will be sure to have a tough but enjoyable time on the Cougar trails.
Downhill practice at venue (signposted from Waipa Mill Rd), Whakarewarewa Forest, Rotorua runs between 9am and 5pm on Friday, with seeding and racing taking place on Saturday from 10.30am.
Cross Country racing at Cougar Park, Mossop Rd, Tokoroa has age group categories on a 10.30am race start on Sunday morning, with Elite, U19 and U23 categories racing on a 2pm race start.
