WELLINGTON CITY

If you enjoy photography and are aged 10 - 18 years, we're looking for an image showing your unique take on our city.

Snap Wellington the way you see it, enter our Youthspective competition - and be in to win a new camera and a moment of fame.

You might decide to photograph great spots to hang out, city landmarks or personalities, your favourite summer activities, or gigs - like the teen photographer in our photograph on this page.

There are two sections - one for entrants aged 10 - 14 years, and another for those aged 15 - 18 years.

The winner of each section wins:

  • a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR1 Digital Camera
  • an 8Gb memory card
  • a camera case
  • a $50 voucher.

All photos will be displayed on our website, and people visiting the site can vote for their favourite in the People's Choice Award. The winner of this award will receive a Lomography SuperSampler Camera and a $50 voucher.

The winning photos will be displayed at Council venues including Wellington City Libraries and some competition photos will become part of the Council's stock photo library.

There's a panel of expert judges, including Mark Round, The Dominion Post's Illustrations Editor. They'll judge photos on quality, creativity and how the image captures a unique perspective on Wellington city.

For photography tips and technical know-how to get started, a free photography workshop is being held 1.00pm - 2.00pm this Saturday (13.02.10) at Wellington Central Library. Everyone who registers for the competition will also receive a free photo print voucher. Anyone aged between 10 - 18 years is welcome to attend the workshop.

Thanks to our sponsors Wellington Photographic Supplies and Panasonic for their fantastic contributions to the Youthspective Photo Competition prize packs.

To get involved in Youthspective, you'll need to register online first and agree to the terms and conditions. Parents need to sign a permission form for anyone aged under 18 years. The next step is to take photos, select up to three and enter by emailing them to us.
