Learn how to help protect the environment

Environment Waikato, Waipa District Council and the Ngaroto Lake Care Group are joining forces to run a field day for people interested in, or already involved in, improving the environment in their local community.

The Landcare Networking Field Day is on 24 March at the Boat Club, Lake Ngaroto, Bank Road, off Paterangi Road, between Te Awamutu and Pirongia.

The field day will run from 9.30 am to 2.30 pm. The networking day is free, with lunch and refreshments provided.

“The day is of particular interest to people who are keen to roll up their sleeves and start or join an environmental care group or for those who already belong to care groups,” said EW sustainable agriculture coordinator Bala Tikkisetty.


“Care groups do such things as carry out environmental restoration projects in their communities, with technical advice and funding support from organisations and agencies such as EW.”

The field day will feature presentations from staff at various organisations, including Professor David Lowe of Waikato University, who will be speaking on environmental changes after peat lake formation.

A visit to Lake Ngaroto itself will feature discussions a range of issues related to the health of waterways.

There will also be presentations from care groups, EW and Waipa District Council.

“So this will be a great opportunity to get together with like-minded people and share ideas,” said Mr Tikkisetty.

There will be limited transport available on a mini-bus leaving EW at 401 Grey St, Hamilton, at 8.45am on the day.
