Metlink public transport information is moving with the times and you’re invited to find out how - and be in to win daily prizes over the next fortnight (8 – 21 March 2010).

Check the ‘It’s time to evolve competition’ story on the Metlink website, www.metlink.org.nz over the next fortnight, answer the question of the day correctly and you’ll go into a draw to win a prize. Prizes include movies passes, Harbour Explorer Excursion tickets on the Wellington Harbour Ferry, Wairarapa Group Excursion tickets and Marbecks vouchers.

Peter Glensor, Chair of Greater Wellington’s Transport and Access Committee, says timetable information has certainly come a long way over the last few years. “Gone are the days of the big, clumsy paper timetables. Now, you can get all your bus, train and harbour ferry information instantly any time of the day and wherever you are, from your smart phone.”

“The website and Metlink txtBUS and txtTRAIN services, make it so easy now to get your public transport information. The competition aims to show people just how easy it is.”

Metlink’s new website, launched last December, has a range of new features, including interactive Google maps for planning your journey, a fare calculator to show you how much your trip will cost and changes to services via RSS feeds.

“And when real time information comes in, later this year, of course you’ll be able to find our, via your smart phone or computer, when your next bus or train will actually arrive."

Peter Glensor says accurate Metlink timetable information that is convenient and easy to get, is crucial to Greater Wellington’s public transport network. “If you can find out quickly and easily which train or bus to take and when they go, you’re more likely to use public transport.

“And over the next two weeks, when you use the Metlink website, you could receive not just information about your bus, train or harbour ferry, but also a fabulous prize.”
