Construction of Coastal Walkway Extension Starts Next Week
Construction of the Coastal Walkway’s pathway from Waiwhakaiho to Bell Block will begin next week.
On Monday (15 MARCH) Whitaker Civil Engineering will start on the section of pathway next to the east abutment of Te Rewa Rewa Bridge.
When completed over the following 12 weeks the Coastal Walkway will extend 3km to Ellesmere Avenue in Bell Block, bringing its total length to 10km.
“This section of the coast is one that many people have never visited,” says Manager Projects Jeff Bondy.
“It brings people very close to the Tasman Sea, takes them across the historic Te Rewa Rewa Reserve and also through a working farm.
“It’s a great slice of the Taranaki landscape.”
The concrete path will be wide enough for cyclists and walkers to use it at the same time.
The project includes sealing the loose metal section of walkway from Fitzroy Beach Holiday Park to the Waiwhakaiho River car park.
In addition, there will be a concrete path that will travel from the car park, over the lookout, across the road, across the existing causeway bridge and along the grass causeway to Te Rewa Rewa Bridge.
