Point Chevalier set to host next round of TriWoman series
Point Chevalier is the perfect venue for a triathlon, in particular one that focuses entirely on participation rather than the elite aspect of the sport.
Point Chevalier Beach is largely protected from the weather elements and offers a spectator and participant friendly swim close to the beach, in depths that offer comfort to those nervous swimmers.
No surprise then that the Contact TriWoman Series is returning to Point Chevalier this Sunday March 21st, with hundreds of women, many of them local, turning out to take part in the triathlon and duathlon events on offer.
Event Director Adele Holmes says the TriWoman Series is all about fun and women taking part in a friendly and non challenging environment.
“Triathlon NZ is being true to the roots of this long standing series and that means it is all about fun. Each of our events around the country has attracted women of all backgrounds, each of them participating for their own reasons but more often than not they are doing so alongside friends or workmates.
“Point Chev is a great venue based at Coyle Park with a wonderful swim in warm and shallow waters and a nice flat bike and run course on quiet streets, perfect for all the ladies out there wanting to have some fun and improve their fitness at the same time!
“Often it seems people need that goal, that little bit of motivation to get out there and do something about fitness levels. The TriWoman Series does that in a non threatening environment. The distances are easily achieved and the training can be done with friends or family, just as they can support mum, daughter, sister, aunty or friend on the day.”
Jessie Montgomery will make the trip over from the North Shore for her second triathlon and can’t wait.
“I know that I am a little unhealthy and when it comes to exercise I need a motivating factor in order to get out there and do it, so the Contact TriWoman Series provided that motivation.
“I competed at the TriWoman event in Narrow Neck, which I didn’t train very hard for. The support from that event was amazing – such a supportive environment and you don’t feel like your out on your own at all.”
Likewise Lyndy Matthews is back for more after a four year break.
“I did a couple of these events four years ago, and decided I needed to improve my work-life balance. Being a medical practioner, it’s great that it is open to all women of all shapes and sizes, and it is truly inspiring.”
The series has proven hugely popular so far with women all around New Zealand with events held from Whangarei in the north to Wellington and later in the series Christchurch in the South Island.
