The 150th reunion of the Ferguson clan’s arrival in New Zealand will be held in Northland over Easter.

On April 2, a special event will be held at Waipu, a town which holds strong significance for Nova Scotian settlers with extended recorded history.

The following day a Ferguson clan commemoration and re-inactment event will be held at Oceans Resort Tutukaka, which is built on the site or very close to the original Ferguson boarding house and later hotel.

``We will be celebrating Jane Ferguson and her four children’s arrival in (Auckland) New Zealand in 1860,’’ one of the organisers Colleen Going said today.

``We will also mark the arrival of Hugh and Isabella Ferguson to Tutukaka 130 years ago. They owned large blocks of land in Tutukaka, Matapouri and the Kiripaka area. Some family members still living on the original block of land in Kiripaka.’’

She said they were also encouraging family members from the Sadgrove line to attend as they were having difficulty trying to locate them. Both of Jane Ferguson’s two daughters married Sadgrove brothers.
