JAZZ apple countdown
In less than three weeks, the moment all apple lovers have been waiting for will be here, with the official opening of the 2010 New Zealand JAZZ™ Apple Season on Monday 12 April 2010.
JAZZ™ is rapidly becoming one of the most popular apples in the world, and boasts the loudest crunch, as well as a tangy-sweet taste and the perfect size for a satisfying fruit snack.
Created after years of collaboration between ENZA, Plant and Food Research and selected apple growers around the world, JAZZ™ is now the third largest apple crop grown in New Zealand.
The apple is a naturally bred cross between Royal Gala and Braeburn and has inherited the best attributes of both its parents – the juicy sweetness and colour of the Royal Gala and the tangy tartness and crunch of the Braeburn. The result is a sweet, tart apple with broad appeal that is very dense and crunchy.
JAZZ™ was introduced to the global markets six years ago, and huge international demand has meant that this is only the second year that JAZZ™ apples are available in New Zealand. With increasing yields from JAZZ™ apple orchards in Nelson, Hawkes Bay and Central Otago, Kiwis will be able to enjoy the taste of this popular home grown delight from Monday 12 April 2010.
- JAZZ™ has a sweet, tangy, acid zing that gives it a distinctive flavour on the palette
- JAZZ™ is only grown by selected growers chosen by ENZA. There are also extremely rigorous criteria around orchard and harvest practices, and grade standards for JAZZ™ apples that must be met
- JAZZ™ orchards are located in Nelson, Hawkes Bay and Central Otago
- JAZZ™ apples are the perfect snack – easy to carry around, healthy and great tasting
- JAZZ™ is proven to keep kids coming back for more, time and time again
- JAZZ™ apples are low GI, high in fibre, have three times the Vitamin C content of regular apples and 66% more nutrient density than regular apples
- JAZZ™ apples will be available from leading supermarkets and produce stores from Monday 12 April 2010
- JAZZ™ apples will remain crunchy and delicious for far longer than any other apples and will stay enticingly delicious in the fridge for months.
