Community feedback on the Queenstown Lakes District’s intention to prepare a Management Plan for the Queenstown Gardens should be with the council next week.

The existing plan was prepared by the Department of Conservation in 1987 and did not include all of the Queenstown Gardens land. In particular the new plan needed to include the council administered reserve adjacent to the entrance road (ice rink and skatepark).

“The gardens are iconic and a vital part of our district. This is a perfect opportunity to have a conversation with the community about the gardens going forward,’ QLDC community services general manager Paul Wilson said.

Council staff held a public gardens ‘walk-about’ earlier this month, which was well attended by 35 people.

“We want the community, particularly the users, to discuss their ideas with us before we put pen to paper,” Mr Wilson said.

Once the council had received the feedback it would then develop a draft plan that would be made available for further comment.

“I am grateful to those people that have engaged with us to date. We have received some valuable feedback,” Mr Wilson said.

An information sheet is available at www.qldc.govt.nz or from the council office.

Suggestions should be sent to Hannah.ponton@qldc.govt.nz by Wednesday 31 March 2010.
