Construction of the Coastal Walkway extension to Bell Block is well under way, with the section nearest Te Rewa Rewa Bridge now starting to take shape.

“The contractors have made a good start on Te Rewa Rewa Reserve, and despite the recent rain the pathway is starting to emerge on the ground,” says Manager Projects Team Jeff Bondy.

The pathway will run from Te Rewa Rewa Bridge to two accessways in Bell Block: Ellesmere Avenue and the Smeaton Road car park.

“We have positioned the Smeaton Road access path across Hickford Park to allow for continued use of the area as a working farm, and for future development as a park – such as the proposed velodrome.

“This access path will be 2.4m wide with a farm fence on either side,” says Mr Bondy.

The 3km extension from Waiwhakaiho to Bell Block is scheduled for completion by the middle of June.
