Trevor Janes to chair Public Trust

Justice Minister Simon Power has today announced that Trevor Janes will become chair of Public Trust from 1 May.

Mr Janes will replace outgoing chair Donal Curtin.

"Trevor Janes is an experienced company director who has served on the Public Trust Board since June 2009, and I'm delighted he has accepted this challenging role. 

"I look forward to working with him to further develop Public Trust's strategic direction."

Mr Power thanked Mr Curtin for his service. He has served on the board since July 2004, and as chair since November 2007.   

Christchurch-based solicitor Sue McCormack joins the board, while deputy chair Robin Hill and Sarah Roberts have been reappointed for further terms.

Appointments

  • 1. Trevor Janes, of Auckland, is an experienced director and holds a number of board positions including Deputy Chair of Abano Healthcare, director of Salvus Strategic Investments Limited and Procare Health Ltd. He has served on the Mighty River Power Board since 2005 and was appointed as Deputy Chair in November 2009. He was appointed to the Board of Public Trust in June 2009. He is also a Member of the Investment Committee of the Board of Accident Compensation Corporation, chairs the Risk Assurance and Audit Committee of Mighty River Power and is chairman of Trinity Hill Limited. Previously, he has held directorships with Accident Compensation Corporation, Capital and Merchant Finance, Catalyst Injury Management Limited, Auckland District Health Board, Watercare Services and Housing New Zealand.
  • 2. Sue McCormack is a Christchurch-based commercial and corporate lawyer with over 20 years of legal experience. She is currently a partner of Mortlock McCormack Law, and previously owned McCormack Law. She has held a number of directorships, including Lyttelton Port Company from 1998 to 2007, and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra from 2003 to 2008. Ms McCormack's current directorships include Eye to Eye Training Ltd, Excurcia Ltd, Mortlock McCormack Law Ltd and Mortlock McCormack Insurance Trust Ltd. She is also a member of the New Zealand Law Society and the Institute of Directors in New Zealand.

Reappointments

  • 3. Robin Hill is a Wellington-based company director, with an accounting background in the professional services environment. Currently Mr Hill is Deputy Chair of the Gas Industry Company Ltd, holds directorships in a number of superannuation schemes, and is a Fellow of New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants. He has an extensive background in financial and business management. He was Chair and Chief Executive of PricewaterhouseCoopers New Zealand from 1992 to 2003. He was also a member of the firm's Global Board from 1992 to 1995 and the Executive Advisory Group from 1999 to 2000. Mr Hill has been active in the accountancy sector in New Zealand, and was an inaugural member of the Accounting Standards Review Board.
  • 4. Sarah Roberts is the Auckland-based National Chair of legal firm Buddle Findlay. She practices in the general corporate field and specialises in major commercial transactions involving both the public and private sectors. Sarah has advised major institutions and substantial companies on a variety of acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, management buyouts and structuring matters. Ms Roberts has significant experience advising major corporates in the trustee market, and she is being reappointed for this skill set, along with her knowledge of the Auckland trustee market, this being a target market for Public Trust. In addition to her role at the law firm, Ms Roberts is a director of Pacific Equity Partners (New Zealand) Ltd and the Southern Cross Building Society. She was previously on the boards of Vertex Group Holdings Ltd and Whitcoulls Finance Pty Ltd.
