The fact that Ms Prentice felt the need to engage a media manager is an indication that she probably plans to make a challenge for the Mayoralty.

My response will be similar to statements I made regarding the first Mayoral challenger, Carl Heenan, it’s good for democracy. There will be more robust debate on civic issues and voter turnout will increase during the elections.

The first challenger declared his position on the most divisive issue to face our City Council in the last decade; the CEO’s driving incident. I admire his honesty and if Ms Prentice does indeed become an official candidate, it will be interesting to hear her point of view on this and many other contentious issues.

I look forward to the forthcoming elections and reaffirm my commitment to the people of this city.
