A recent survey commissioned by Canon New Zealand as the company launches its new imageRUNNER ADVANCE range, revealed that printing documents in your office or at university are not as secure or private as you might imagine. Over 60 per cent of people surveyed admitted looking at printed material that is sitting on a printer when collecting their own printing.

Canon has addressed this issue among a range of efficiency enhancing measures with its imageRUNNER ADVANCE, the next-generation multi-function device (MFD) platform. The platform has been designed from the ground-up to drive greater integration between hardware, software and services to address key business issues including security and efficiency.

“The imageRUNNER ADVANCE series has been designed to reduce costs, enhance employee efficiency and address security issues to allow employees to focus on what they do best, rather than wasting time waiting at the printer or tracking down their print jobs,” says Mike Johnston, Country Manager Canon New Zealand.

Over 70 per cent of people are unaware of the cost of printing to their organisation. ImageRUNNER ADVANCE offers customers the ability to optimise their printing environment and reduce costs by automating workflows, reducing the volume of unnecessary output and choosing more energy efficient devices from the imageRUNNER ADVANCE series,” says Mr. Johnston.

Canon’s latest MFD offering is a fully integrated document solution designed to complement every stage of the document lifecycle from creation to management and output to archive, while supporting the security and environmental goals of business.

The imageRUNNER ADVANCE range is capable of producing extremely high-quality print jobs, virtually indecipherable from a commercially printed product. Increased automation reduces employee frustration and increases efficiency for employees using the printer. It has been designed to cater for the market looking for more capacity and higher quality output than standard office printers and is positioned between office printers and commercial printing machines.

The new print platform will see the introduction of a completely new range of MFDs for the office and
light production markets. Suitable for organisations of all sizes, from SMEs to large corporate organisations, the
devices help companies become more efficient through easier integration into their document
workflows as well as achieving lower operating costs, improved document security and a lower
environmental impact.

”imageRUNNER ADVANCE is an evolution in office print and document management technology.
Improved design and functionality as well as alliances with expert partners combine to create a brand
new architecture, achieving advanced performance and device management, outstanding image
quality, and enhanced usability,” says Mr. Johnston.

About the Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE – Features and Specifications
The next generation of colour MFDs boast hundreds of enhancements to deliver improved
performance and faster processing. Further enhancements to Canon’s industry-first embedded
technology and partnership alliances with leading software providers such as Adobe, Microsoft and
NT Ware, ensure that integration with common office systems is straightforward, contributing
significantly to improved operating efficiency and security.

imageRUNNER ADVANCE automates paper-intensive document processes and streamlines
document-based communications to help workforces become more productive. The new platform also
enables users to scan paper documents quickly and to a multitude of destinations. Incorporating a
number of new file formats based on user needs including Adobe® PDF, Adobe® PDFA1b, Office
Open XML and Adobe® Reader Extensions, makes it easy for users to effortlessly work with
hardcopy documents, mark-up and apply notes, insert annotations or save documents for long term
archival.

The large, high-quality colour TFT LCD touch screen user interface, which is built in to each
imageRUNNER ADVANCE device, enables organisations to customise screen options for individuals.
Users can personalise and speed-up access to the most relevant functions for their specific role
through automated one-touch workflows.

The imageRUNNER ADVANCE range also offers improved document security and will comply with
the industry’s most stringent security standards. Organisations can adopt a portfolio of security
measures to meet their specific requirements. Device security can be achieved through employee ID
cards and follow-me printing, as well as hard-disk removal.

Critical business data can be protected through a Document Scan Lock Kit which provides a secure
watermark to printed documents, and an Adobe® LiveCycle Rights Management policy server
provides controlled access to scanned PDF documents.

imageRUNNER ADVANCE has also been designed with the environment in mind. Every event in the
life of a device and the documents it produces has been considered. The range offers the industry’s
highest levels of energy efficiency, for example, with an overall reduction in carbon emissions of up to
30 per cent. The new range also uses bio plastic in a number of exterior parts and is Energy Star and
RoHS compliant.

Canon has also developed a new version of iW360 - its powerful suite of software solutions - for the
imageRUNNER ADVANCE platform. The new iW Desktop enables the user to collaborate more with
the device making it easier than ever before to create professional-looking documents.

In addition to the imageRUNNER ADVANCE C7000 series and C5000 series Canon has launched
the imageRUNNER ADVANCE C9000 PRO Series. These light production devices are aimed at
professional print service providers with lower volume production requirements than imagePRESS
customers.
