The first Tsunami Resilience Meeting was well attended by community members, with more than 60 people turning out to listen to tsunami experts and members of the emergency services.

Murray Sinclair, Manager, Civil Defence & Emergency Management for the Christchurch City Council, says the meeting was very useful in getting experts to explain to the community how a tsunami is likely to behave if a one struck the South Shore/South New Brighton Beach.

“The community meeting was attended by approximately 60 residents from South New Brighton and Southshore; all the seats were filled and there were people standing in the back. Community members asked pertinent questions which contributed to a really good discussion about the issues,” says Mr. Sinclair.

“I’m am very pleased with the outcome of the meeting and look forward to working with the Southshore and South New Brighton residents to build greater community resilience to all emergencies.”

This meeting was the first in a series where community members can work together to create a community plan about how they will respond to emergencies.
