Southern tender completes $44.54 million road maintenance programme.
A $22.27 million contract for the maintenance and management of roads in the southern area of the Far North has been let to McBreen Jenkins Construction Ltd.
The contract provides for general road maintenance, vegetation control, signs maintenance, and pavement reconstruction of the council’s roading network in the southern area for the next three years. The contract can be extended until 2012 at the discretion of the council.
Two tenders for the southern contract were considered by the council.
Roading & Drainage Manager Greg Ingham said today in the tender process the successful company had displayed a good understanding of the council’s objectives and road maintenance requirements and had taken a proactive approach, including an increased commitment of resources to the contract.
A similar contract for the northern area, also for $22.27 million, was let to Fulton Hogan Ltd in July. Both Fulton Hogan Ltd and McBreen Jenkins Construction Ltd previously held the same contracts in the northern and southern areas respectively.
