McKay Replaces Bond In BLACKCAPS Squad.

BLACKCAP Batsman Jesse Ryder is on his way home to New Zealand with an injured elbow. Meanwhile, Wellington Pace bowler Andy McKay has joined the squad in place of the retired Shane Bond.

BLACKCAPS Manager, Dave Currie, says the decision to send Ryder home was to start treatment on his elbow immediately. “He has had trouble with his elbow for the last couple of weeks. The focus for him now is the Sri Lanka tour, so he has returned to assess the extent of the injury and to get ready for that tour.”

BLACKCAPS coach, Mark Greatbatch said that McKay’s selection is a good opportunity for him join the squad and prepare for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. “We brought Andy into the frame during the summer series against Bangladesh. He showed us some things we haven’t had before with the left arm swinging it at good pace. It is a good opportunity for him to play against a sub-continent side (Sri Lanka) before we tour there later in the year.”
