Help Coming for Readdressed Properties in Bell Block
Residents and businesses on the soon-to-be-renamed Devon Road will have an easier transition to their new road names.
New Plymouth District Council staff have worked with various agencies to organise the redirection of mail and utility bills when the former Devon Road is renamed as four separate roads.
“We’ve given the Bell Block residents and business owners a helping hand by asking New Zealand Post to waive redirection fees, and approaching various utility companies to streamline the readdressing process at their end,” says Manager Customer Services Mary-Anne Priest.
“The bypassing of an entire town is an uncommon situation, and all of the agencies have been happy to help.”
Residents will receive an information pack to help them with their change of address.
In addition, the Policy Committee has recommended that the Council provide free replacement reflective numbers for new addresses, and a one-off maximum payment of up to $300 per business that is affected by the road renaming.
“This won’t cover all of the businesses’ costs, but it acknowledges the additional expense they will incur and gives them a bit of relief,” says Ms Priest.
