Watkins runner up in Sexy Sportswoman poll

White Ferns Captain Aimee Watkins has come a close second in Yahoo!Xtra’s Sexiest Women in Sport Poll.

Over 3700 people voted in the poll and the 27 year old all-rounder was within 40 votes of fellow Kiwi BMXer Sarah Walker.

Watkins, who is currently winging her way to Devon to play cricket, said she was delighted with the runner up title. "I'm thrilled to be second in this poll. It has been a lot of fun. Hopefully my inclusion in this event has boosted the profile of women's cricket,” she said.

"Cricket is a great sport and we'd love to see more women participating and more spectators down at our games this summer."

Geoff Allott, NZC General Manager – Cricket, said the whole organisation was thrilled with Watkins’ achievement.

“Aimee is a wonderful ambassador for women’s cricket and we are proud of her for representing the sport so well,” he said. “Women’s cricket is continually growing within New Zealand and we hope to see more people get involved in the future.”

Yahoo!Xtra’s Sports Editor Mike Kilpatrick said it was great to see everyone getting behind the local ladies. “It was good to see the Kiwi public supporting the Kiwi girls and proved that we not only have the best sportswomen in the world, we also have the most beautiful.”
