Emirates Team New Zealand update - Day 1 La Maddalena

Only the breeze was missing from the first day of racing for the Louis Vuitton Trophy at La Maddalena, Sardinia.
The teams were there ready to start the regatta in style. Race officials were there, the media and spectators were there, but of the breeze there was no sign.
Earlier in the week, the forecasts for the weekend indicated strong winds. As the week progressed the forecasters were predicting lighter and lighter winds.
One flight of two matches did get away after a delay of an hour, but by the time the Emirates Team New Zealand match against BMW Oracle came around the breeze had died. And it was not to be resuscitated. Racing was abandoned at 4pm.
Tomorrow flights 4,5 and 6 will be raced. Then, if time allows, flight 2 from today will be sailed.
The weather tomorrow is expected to be more favourable for racing.
