WELLINGTON CITY

The annual Gold Awards were held last week at the TSB Bank Arena with two of the capital's finest entertainers given the nod for Council-sponsored awards.

Congratulations to Taika Waititi who won the Absolutely Creatively Wellington Ambassador Award. This prestigious prize is awarded for international exposure and recognition in creative endeavours.

Taika is an award-winning film director, writer, painter, comedian and actor. His latest box office hit Boy has become New Zealand's most successful comedy of all time.

Congratulations also go to Barnaby Weir who won the Absolutely Creatively Wellington Award.

This is awarded to people who have demonstrated creativity and innovation through their work in the Wellington region. Barnaby is the popular singer, songwriter, and guitarist with New Zealand dub, funk, and reggae group The Black Seeds.

Congratulations also to Catherine de Groot and Sarah Gibbs for Trilogy's win in The Dominion Post Supreme Gold Award.
