Chemical clean up opportunity
Farmers in the Queenstown Lakes District will have an opportunity to ‘clean-up’ unwanted chemicals during June, Queenstown Lakes District Council solid waste manager Stefan Borowy said.
“I have been advised about a rural recycling programme that farmers can tap into, allowing them to get rid of unwanted material in an environmentally viable way,” Mr Borowy said.
The Agrecovery programme was established to provide a long term recycling solution for on-farm waste issues, with the ability to dispose of the millions of plastic agrichemical containers currently used in New Zealand each year.
“It gives every farmer and grower the ability to dispose of containers, and silage wrap in a more responsible way,” he said.
The Otago and Southland collection drive would take place from 28-30 June, 2010.
“The way to take advantage of this programme is to book your unwanted chemicals by either going online or emailing Agrecovery or calling them. Bookings need to be made by the 14 June,” Mr Borowy said.
Contact details were: www.agrecovery.co.nz or freephone 0800247 326 or email chemicals@agrecovery.co.nz .
“It’s a great service and a great opportunity to ensure that these chemicals are not left lying around the country-side for generations to come,” he said.
