Kiwis innovators are rising to the challenge when it comes to creating the next great chip flavour. Entries have been flooding in to DO US A FLAVOUR, the national competition launched by Bluebird last week. Some off-the-wall flavour suggestions have been received including Hokey Pokey ice cream, White Chocolate & Salt, and Ham, Cheese & Pineapple toasties.

The overall winner will receive $20,000 in cash and two percent of sales for the duration the winning flavour is sold. Three runners up will receive $5,000 each.

Acclaimed Kiwi chef Al Brown has been enlisted to provide culinary expertise throughout the competition. Brown is an authority on great kiwi flavours making him the perfect critic and judge of DO US A FLAVOUR.

"If the entries received in the past week are anything to go by, there are going to be some very interesting flavours entered. It is great to experiment but the fundamentals of flavour matching need to be considered as well. All great dishes combine flavours with perfect balance. The same applies to a great tasting chip and that’s what the judges will be looking for – the next great Kiwi chip flavour.

Brown will lead a panel of judges who will select four finalists and eventually a winner later this year. The judging panel includes broadcaster Noelle McCarthy, The Rock Morning Rumble Hosts Roger Farrelly & Bryce Casey and a resident Bluebird Chip-ologist (chip connoisseur and flavour expert).

Bluebird’s DO US A FLAVOUR competition is open for entries until 10 July. The mechanic is simple. Flavour creators need only submit an original flavour idea along with a creative image to www.bluebird.co.nz.
