Crowd Stunt Planned for All Blacks Test Match
Get ready to take part in the pre-match entertainment at Yarrow Stadium on Saturday!
A Telecom crowd stunt before the All Blacks test match has been planned on a scale that hasn’t been seen before in New Zealand.
“Every person in the Noel and Melva Yarrow Stand will have a large card assigned to their seat, and at the right time the ground announcer will ask everyone to hold up their card,” says Manager Events Melissa Devine-Collins.
“The cards will create a large image across the face of the grandstand.
“It’s important that everyone holds onto their cards and waits for the ground announcer’s cue. It will be an amazing visual display and we need everyone’s support to get it right!”
Before the game, the public can get a look at Gaelic football at Morley Street’s Western Park from 4.00pm, then afterwards wander up to Yarrow Stadium for the test match.
“We do encourage people to either walk or take a bus to the ground as we’ve got almost a full house and the streets are going to be pretty congested,” says Mrs Devine-Collins.
“However there is limited paid parking at Westown School from 5.00pm. Anyone who does park on the streets should show courtesy to the stadium’s neighbours – we’ll have parking wardens on duty to respond to any problems.”
Sections of Water Place, Wallace Place, Sanders Avenue, Tukapa Street, and Cutfield and Gladstone roads will not be available for parking private motor vehicles.
Shuttle buses will operate on a continuous loop from 5.00pm from the Ariki Street Bus Station, and after the game from Tukapa Street back to the city, costing just a gold coin per person per ride.
Free central-city parking on Saturday is available in the Lower Courtenay Car Park (beneath The Warehouse) from 5.00pm and Centre City car park and Downtown Car Park from 6.00pm. All are open until 2.00am on Sunday 13 June.
A limited number of test tickets are still available through TSB Showplace and www.ticketdirect.co.nz. Ticket purchases and pre-purchased ticket collection will be available at TSB Showplace until noon on Saturday 12 June, and then from 5.30pm at Yarrow Stadium’s Gate One on Maratahu Street.
“If you want to get through the ticket gates faster, leave any bags behind as all bags will be searched before entry,” says Mrs Devine-Collins.
“And be sure to arrive early to soak up the pre-match entertainment from 7.00pm, which will feature a performance by Midnight Youth.”
The stadium’s new conditions of entry prohibit a variety of items, such as alcohol, commercially produced takeaway food, glassware and thermos flasks, and hard-sided chilly bins. The full list of conditions is online at newplymouthnz.com.
Gates open at 5.30pm.
