Navman Wireless today introduced an iPhone application for its OnlineAVL2 vehicle location software application.  The Navman Wireless iPhone Application is now available from the iTunes App Store, at no cost, to Navman Wireless customers in New Zealand and Australia, giving them access to up-to-date information about their fleet from their iPhones.

Customers who download the application will be able to perform a number of key fleet management activities from their iPhones. These include:

  • Checking the real time location of single vehicles or the entire fleet
  • Sending and receiving messages to and from vehicles
  • Routing vehicles to destination
  • Replaying recent movements of vehicles

Navman Wireless has operations in 15 countries and is the only global AVL provider with an AVL (automatic vehicle location) application for the iPhone.

“The launch of the Navman Wireless iPhone Application marks an important milestone in making rich vehicle tracking applications available on a smartphone platform,” says Paresh Nagda, Navman Wireless CTO. “It’s the first of a new generation of applications on our product roadmap. These will give managers-on-the-move the information they need to make decisions about resources and the tools for communicating with people in the field, all available at their fingertips, wherever they happen to be.”

Ian Daniel, Vice President Asia Pacific at Navman Wireless says the application was developed in response to requests from Navman Wireless Australasian customers.

“The iPhone is extremely popular with business owners and managers across Australasia, and that represents an opportunity for us to make their lives easier. We understand that, while they want to have vehicle location information and communication capabilities available wherever they are, whenever they need them, they do not want to have to carry a computer with them to do so,” says Ian.

“We anticipate that the Navman Wireless iPhone App will appeal to a wide range of our existing customers. For owner operators in the service industry it means they will be able to take calls from customers, accurately answer queries about arrival times, and message field staff and route vehicles no matter where they are.

“We also think it will appeal to operations managers in the transport industry where many businesses operate 24/7. Being able to access real time information about your fleet anywhere anytime is really important for accountability and peace of mind, and gives you better information for decision-making.”

Navman Wireless engaged New Zealand-based start up Pocket Logistics to research and develop the application.

“It is a native iPhone app developed specifically for Navman Wireless,” says Danushka Abeysuriya, Director & Chief Technical Officer, Pocket Logistics Ltd. “If you’re familiar with an iPhone the application is intuitive and easy to use.”

“Pocket Logistics has done a superb job,” says Ian. “We’re delighted with the result.”

To access the application Navman Wireless Australasian customers simply download it from the iTunes App Store. They then contact their Navman Wireless Dealer to request a user name and password and once this is set up the application is ready to use.

“The iPhone is becoming the smartphone of choice for businesses in Australia and New Zealand. We anticipate that demand for the Navman Wireless iPhone App will only increase,” says Ian.
