Rugby World Cup 2011’s volunteer roadshow hits New Plymouth next week, and you’re invited along!

The roadshow will provide information on what being a RWC 2011 volunteer entails, the various roles available and how to register.

“This is the public’s chance to join the team that is delivering Rugby World Cup 2011,” says NPDC General Manager Customer Services Cathy Thurston.

“We’re keen for people from around Taranaki to put their hand up to be involved.

“There are plenty of opportunities for those who’d like to get involved, from roles at Stadium Taranaki, to assisting at the Fan Zone or transport hub, or city hosting to help the thousands of visitors who will be coming here for the matches.”

The roadshow will be in TSB Showplace’s Alexandra Room on Tuesday 29 June, with two sessions available: From 12.30pm-1.30pm, and from 5.30-6.30pm. Registrations to be a volunteer open online on 14 July through www.rugbyworldcup.com/volunteer.

Mrs Thurston says Taranaki has already proved to have enthusiastic volunteers for big events, such as last November’s Fleetwood Mac concert and Saturday’s All Blacks test match.

“We’ve received some lovely feedback from visitors about just how wonderful and very helpful the volunteers were for the test match.

“The Rugby World Cup volunteer programme is a chance for us to build on our reputation as generous hosts and make Taranaki a highlight of the Tournament for visitors,” she says.

RWC 2011 is looking for a range of people who are enthusiastic, dedicated and committed to serving and hosting the tournament’s visitors. Volunteers will receive training to enhance their skills and abilities, as well as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be involved in this fantastic international event.

Stadium Taranaki will host three RWC 2011 matches: Ireland vs USA, Russia vs USA, and Wales vs Namibia.
