New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships, Waikanae – 19 June 2010
Rebekah Greene returned, after finishing third last year, to win the senior girls’ title over 4km in 14m 25s. Mikayla Nielson was 11 seconds back in second with Anna-Lisa Uttley third.
Declan Wilson followed up his win in the Auckland schools senior boys cross country championship with the New Zealand title covering the 6km in 19m 50s, to beat Max Baxter by 11 seconds.

AUCKLAND
Winter Competition, Sovereign Stadium North Shore – 19 June 2010

Three races were held; James Mortimer won the 400m in 48.03s from Frazer Wickes 48.54s and Shay Taylor 49.61s. Tama Toki took out the 200m in 21.70s (-1.90) from Joseph Millar 22.11s. Toki also won the second 400m race in 48.96s from Millar 49.13s.

NEW PLYMOUTH
New Zealand Racewalkers 15km Championships – 19 June 2010
Mike Parker won the men’s title in 1h 18m 1s from David Sim 1h 20m 56s and Eric Kmsley 1h 21m 9s. The women’s title went to Vanessa Lowl in 1h 29m 54s from Rachel Gilberd 1h 35m 10s and Denise Stewart-Jacks 1h 37m 20s. Matthew Holcroft won an associated M19 5km walk in 24m 25s.

CHRISTCHURCH
Anglican Block Relay, Spencer Park – 19 June 2010

Sumner won the senior men and masters men teams races on net times with the senior women going to University of Canterbury and the masters women to North Canterbury. Fastest 5km laps were Tania Causer 17m 33s, Lucy Oliver 17m 41s, Aine Hoban 17m 56s and Sarah McSweeney 18m 4s in the women and Phil Costley 14m 36s, Kerry Faass 15m 0s, Richard Bennett 15m 3s and Grant Guise 15m 36s in the men.

SOUTHLAND
McIndoe Cross Country, Wyndham Racecourse – 19 June 2010

Barry Ledington (St Paul's) continued his domination of Southland distance running with a convincing win the in the McIndoe Crosscountry run at the Wyndham racecourse on Saturday. Ledington was never headed around the 3-lap 9km soft and slippery course and won by nearly two minutes from rising triathlon star Aaron Barclay (Gore), 31m 56s to 33m 47s. Ageless Ricky Gutsell (Gore) was third. The McIndoe Casket team trophy was won by St Pauls over Gore, 18 to 24 with Ledington supported by Shaun Burgess in 4th, Glen McLeay 6th and Matt Gare 7th. Invercargill won the Murray Jones women's trophy with a family team of Adamsons: Meg (13) was first woman in the 6km with 25m 34s, sister Hannah (15) third and mum Jenny fifth. Kathy Maclachlan (St Pauls) was second woman in 25m 54s but couldn't quite peg back the fast start from Meg. Jake Henderson (St Paul's) won the M16 race over 6km in 24m 46s.

MANCHESTER UK
BMC Trafford Grand Prix – 15 June 2010

National 800m champion Aniel Smith was second in the 800m C race in a time of 1m 53.00s. Won by Rhian Hastey in 1m 52.73s.

JONATHAN WYATT – Just Keeps on Going
A couple of results from Jonathan Wyatt competing in Taipei Taiwan. On 30 May he was second in the Taipei 101 run up, 1km stair race rising 450m in 11m 23s. He was also second on 5th June in the Salomon Xtrail Taiwan, 17km rising 700m in 1h 44m. After these races Wyatt returned to Italy where he won the Lavies Petralba 10km rising 1100m in 51m 26s in Alto Adige. On Sunday 20th June in Neirivue Switzerland Wyatt won for the second year in a row the annual Neirivue Moleson 10.6km rising 1290m in 50m 46.7s nearly a minute ahead of Cesar Costa of Portugal. Last year Wyatt won in 58m 30s.

STRONG NEW ZEALAND TEAM FOR YOUTH OLYMPICS
An experienced team of 11 young athletes have been selected to represent New Zealand at the Youth Olympic Games to be held in Singapore 14-26 August.
Jacko Gill will star in the shot put. Gill from Devonport North Shore has set world age records during the last athletic season and as well as winning the national M19 and M16 titles set New Zealand records in the shot put for men 19, 18, 17 and 16.
Mohamed Ali of Hamilton will compete in the 3000m. Ali won the Australian junior title in 8m 40.23s and 13 days later in March won the New Zealand title in Christchurch. Hazel Bowering-Scott of Nelson the national W16 200m champion and second in the Australian championship has been selected for the 200m. Hayden Hall of Christchurch second behind Gill in the national championships will compete in the discus.
Jenna Hansen of Hamilton the national W16 2000m steeplechase champion will compete in this event. In the Australian junior championships Hansen was second.
Joshua Hawkins of Auckland, who set a New Zealand M16 110m hurdles record in finishing second in the Australian junior championships is named for the sprint hurdles in Singapore.
Matthew Holcroft of Hamilton, the national M16 3000m track walk champion will compete in the walk.
Brad Mathas of Wanganui, who had an outstanding season in the 800m, winning the Australian and New Zealand junior titles, will compete in the 1000m.
Julia Ratcliffe of Hamilton, the national W16 hammer throw record holder and New Zealand W19 and W16 champion has been selected for the hammer throw. National M16 100m champion Yarride Rosario of Wellington, who was also third in the Australian championships will compete in the 100m. Anna-Lisa Uttley, formerly Otago and now living in Tauranga will compete in the 3000m. The national W16 cross country and road champion was second in the Australian junior 3000m championship.
The team will be managed by Neal Webb of Te Awamutu.

Barry Maister, secretary general of the New Zealand Olympic Committee is delighted to see elite youth athletes given the opportunity to compete in an international multi-sport environment.
“Household names like Valerie Vili, Nick Willis, Peter Snell and John Walker have created history in athletics stadia around the world. The Youth Olympic Games are an ideal opportunity for the heroes of the future to take their first steps and I’ll be looking for them in the team to Rio 2016,” said Maister.
Terry Lomax Rio 2016 Performance Project Manager for Athletics New Zealand is pleased to have another group of athletes with the opportunity to gain exposure in overseas international competition.
“The added bonus of the exposure to the Olympic values and positive ideals with a multi-sports celebration can only add to the value of the experience for these young athletes,” he said.

The Youth Olympic Games in Singapore will bring together 3,600 athletes between 14 and 18 years of age from all 205 National Olympic Committees to compete in the 26 sports on the London 2012 Olympic Games programme.
New Zealand expects to send a team of 53 athletes contesting 16 sports.
