A Memorandum of Understanding which aims to make the Hutt Valley a safer place is to be signed this Thursday.

The Memorandum formalises the partnership between the members of the Safer Hutt Valley Interagency Group to work together to make the Hutt Valley a safer place to live, work and play and identifies what steps each organisation will take to achieve this objective.

Signatories to the Memorandum are Hutt City Council, Upper Hutt City Council, Accident Compensation Corporation, Hutt Valley District Health Board, Regional Public Health, Lower Hutt District NZ Police, Upper Hutt District NZ Police, and Awakairangi Maori Regional Board.

Safe City Officer Adrian Peoples says the Memorandum is the first formal step towards the Hutt Valley achieving World Health Organisation accreditation as a safe community.

“By signing this Memorandum, we are publicly demonstrating our commitment to making the Hutt Valley a safer place.”

The Memorandum will be signed by Mayor David Ogden on behalf of Hutt City Council and by representatives from the other organisations party to the document at a ceremony in the Hutt City Council Chambers on Thursday, 24 June at 9.30am.
