Safe Hands for Wellington Waterfront Appointments
Wellington City Council last night approved two appointments to the board of Wellington Waterfront Limited.
Michael Cashin, who has been the Deputy Chair since the beginning of 2006, will step up to the role of Chair. Robert Gray has been appointed as a Director on the board. Both appointments are effective immediately and are for terms ending December 2009.
The resignation of the Chair of the board, Fran Wilde, which took effect on 29 August, created a vacancy on the board and in the position of Chair.
In making the new appointments, the Council acknowledged Ms Wilde's service during her tenure. It noted her considerable contribution to delivering on the Waterfront Framework and that she is leaving the company in a strong position.
Mayor Kerry Prendergast says she has no doubt that Ms Wilde's successor will be very appreciative of the solid foundations that have been put in place. "Fran's strength and leadership ensured we could find ways to balance the competing interests of all waterfront users and make real progress."
Ms Prendergast says the appointees bring valuable skills and experience to the board of Wellington Waterfront and will make an important contribution to the city. "I'm very pleased that these busy and talented people have agreed to devote their time to the future of Wellington's waterfront. They provide very safe hands."
Michael Cashin was appointed to the board of Wellington Waterfront Limited as Deputy Chair on 1 January 2006 and had his term extended for a further three years at the beginning of 2007. He is currently a Director of Ryman Healthcare Limited, Cavotec MSL Holdings Limited and Cavotec Group Holdings NV. His previous appointments include Chair of Housing Corporation of New Zealand, Housing New Zealand Limited and At Work Insurance Limited. He has also been a Director of Capital Properties New Zealand Limited, Allied Farmers Limited and CentrePort Limited.
Robert Gray was a previous board member of Positively Wellington Business and has 15 years' experience as a Director on the boards of private, sports and government organisations. He also has considerable experience as a Chief Executive of both large New Zealand and multinational organisations over the past 20 years. He was recently CEO of Creative HQ (incubator for creative start-up companies) and is currently on a number of boards including the Wellington Rugby Football Union and Hurricanes Ltd.
Wellington Waterfront Limited is a Council-Controlled Organisation.
