Nominations Open For Local Government Candidates

Nominations for candidates wishing to stand for this year's local authority elections open on Friday 23 July 2010.

Anyone wishing to stand as a candidate for the Dunedin City Council, Otago Regional Council, Southern District Health Board, or for their local Community Board can obtain nomination forms and candidate information booklets by phoning the Dunedin City Council on 477 4000 or visiting www.dunedin.govt.nz/election

Nominations close on Friday, 20 August at 12.00 noon.

Anyone over the age of 18 can stand for election as long as they are a New Zealand citizen and enrolled on the electoral roll.

A joint information evening will be held for intending candidates for the Dunedin City Council and Otago Regional Council in the Fullwood Room, Dunedin Centre, Harrop Street, Dunedin on Monday, 2 August 2010 at 7.00 pm.

Voting papers will be sent out from 17 September 2010. These must be mailed back to the Council in order to be received no later than midday on Election Day, Saturday, 9 October 2010.
